Ripped Off by Harlow Salon, Nashville!

At the end of July this year, I took advantage of a "package deal" being offered by Harlow Salon on Music Row. It was 2 visits for $65, which I paid for on my credit card.  I told the customer service representative that it would be October since I could use the coupon, since I had just had my hair cut.  He told me that was fine, because the coupon was good for 6 months.  On that assurance, I went ahead and sprang for what I thought was a really good deal.  The coupon arrived promptly within a few days, and in the fine print is a written guarantee that the coupon was good for 6 months. So, in good faith I waited til the week before I wanted to use it to contact the salon.

The person who answered the phone said "oh, that  offer has expired." When I told her about the guarantee she said:  "that was an independent marketing firm that we are not affiliated with, and the offer has expired."  I asked to speak to the manager, who was conveniently "out of the office"---of course.  So, I left my phone number and asked the woman to call me ASAP.  She never did.  I was not rude or angry...I didn't really get angry until I got off the phone.  I'm just out $65 and not even given the courtesy of a follow-up call.

They wouldn't give me my money back if I called back. Nor would I allow them to cut my hair, given the circumstances (can you say "sheared lamb"?)

I just want to tell everyone in Nashville about their unethical treatment of potential customers---and breach of promise.  Better to go to Fantastic Sam's than let these scumbags touch your money!!  Buyer, beware!

UserFriendly,
I was contacted by one of the owners of the salon, who issued me gift certificates for future use. I am satisfied that this business is ethical, and simply the victim of poor communication from their advertising agency, and poor customer service skills from the employee who answered my initial call. I will report back on the results of my experience with Harlow Salon in December or January 2010.

evaclarke,
I am the co-owner of Harlow Salon. First let me apologize for your experience. This is NOT how we do business. We ourselves have had a problem with Vision Global and have been speaking with an attorney. The man or representative you spoke with is not in fact a representative of Harlow at all. This company is not employed by us and our possible law suit has everything to do with potential clients encountering experiences just like this. I would love to have more information on your sales experience. You mentioned that your certificate came in the mail?? Please contact us at the salon and ask for Eva. No matter the cause or fault...this is the first time I am hearing of this specific incident. I would like the opportunity to get you your money back. I would like to offer you services but understand if you would not like to receive them. I don't know who you might have spoken to on the phone. To our knowledge the last set of certificates were to be sold in March which would have made the certificate invalid...none the less I would like to right a wrong. If a certificate was sold in July we were not aware of that and you were given false information. I am sorry for your trouble and inconvenience. We hope to hear from you soon.

ROOEd,
Sounds like you have a good case for small claims court - If you have the receipt and the coupon that is. You may be able to get a chargeback on your credit card too, because of unlawful advertising practices. Check it out with you card company or bank.

evaclarke,
I would love to see anyone sue Vision Global for I plan to do the same. They have very unlawful advertising practices!
