At the end of July this year, I took advantage of a "package deal" being offered by Harlow Salon on Music Row. It was 2 visits for $65, which I paid for on my credit card.  I told the customer service representative that it would be October since I could use the coupon, since I had just had my hair cut.  He told me that was fine, because the coupon was good for 6 months.  On that assurance, I went ahead and sprang for what I thought was a really good deal.  The coupon arrived promptly within a few days, and in the fine print is a written guarantee that the coupon was good for 6 months. So, in good faith I waited til the week before I wanted to use it to contact the salon.
The person who answered the phone said "oh, that  offer has expired." When I told her about the guarantee she said:  "that was an independent marketing firm ...

 Gary Coxe of GaryCoxe.com refused to pay me $1450.00 worth of time for IT services performed such as web development, technical support, consultations, and more! Very shady business practices! I started working for him on September 15th, 2009, he made $1315.00 worth of payments to me and then stopped communicating with me and refused payment over an issue that was his fault, not mine! Now I am $1450.00 in the hole and I have bills to pay!

Here's a credit account scam that I learned about today by accident.
but it is one that we  all need to watch out for because once done, I have found that the same companies that pull this scam have no way to communicate with them in order to be able to reverse it!.
It seems ot be a pretty wide spread "free calogue"  scam; The worst offender to date? Fingerhut .com 
Here is how it works. You see that flashy "free catalogues" come on online. I clicked on it because I am decorating a new apartment. I chose a few includng Fingerhut, a company I had heard of but never dealt with before. Whoopie, I get a free cataglogue from Fingerhut.. Surprisingly, it says in bright red on the cover: My first personal name and then $350 PREAPPROVED CREDIT!
