VHost buys domains when the owners accidentally lose them and then tries to sell them back at a huge fee.

This seems to be common practice on the Internet now. I recommend always registering your domain for 10-years (the max) as it is small change now and will prevent someone unethical from stealing your domain name. Actually, it is not yours anyway, it is just registered to you. But why not register it for as long as you can? Seems like the best way to keep it from being Domain-Jacked. Also, don't forget to "Lock" your domain, to keep it from being transferred without your knowledge.
