I enrolled in a debt relief assistance program through The Attorney Network and was then connected to Consumer Law Center. My total debt was approxiamately $9000. I was given an estimate that the account could be settled for $3000, and I would pay Consumer Law $2500--for a net savings of $4500. A year later, they "settled" the account for $9468--24 payments of $408. Additionally I had paid in almost $3000 to Consumer Law into an "escrow" account to be used for setting the debt. I received a letter in March, 2008, that Consumer Law fees would be taken out first. That left me with about $400 from which they could negotiate. This debt relief assistance cost me approximately $12,500. They now claim that I will get no money back. I have filed a report with BBB, Attorney General and the FTC. Consumer Law has an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau. By the way, I ended up negotiating my own settlement--for more than I originally owed because they had done so much damage.
