It appears that there is a new (to me anyway) scheme where Chinese registrars are trying to trick people into buying unnecessary domain name registrations.

For instance, if you owned the registration for acme.com, they would contact you and say that a certain person or company wants to register acme.com.cn, acme.net.cn, acme.asia and so on. They will tell you that your Internet "brand" may be in jeopardy and the new registrations may cause confusion among your clients.

Basically, they want you to become so concerned that you will register these domains yourself to protect them. They will no doubt offer to register the domains for you, for a very high price. The truth is, it is not something you would normally be concerned with unless you are a world-wide conglomerate that could lose tons of money if someone else had the domains in question and marketed them successfully.

Rip Off Counter-Reports

Consumer reporting sites like RippedOffOnline.com are beginning to get a bad reputation and it is because some businesses and individuals would rather attempt to discredit a website than bow to angry consumers. Reporting sites like ROO serve a valuable purpose; we allow people to post their experiences and exercise there First Amendment rights.

In this country, everyone has the right to speak out against corrupt and deceitful businesses and individuals. I get really annoyed when someone says that our site content is untrue and false. But it does tell me that we are doing our job; allowing people to speak freely. We do not write the comments and reports here, but we do commend those who do. We never, ever edit reports or comments except to censor foul language or block information that could cause physical harm to a person or is a security threat to our ...
